Abstract: For our capstone we were to create a business and create a business plan for it. We also had to create three signature items for our business, mine was the Maple Bacon Bourbon Buns, Peanut Butter Whiskey Balls and Tiramisu Cupcakes. For my capstone I created a diner called Rocky's Diner and Bakery that is located in Lake George,NY and would be open year round. Due to this capstone I learned a lot about running a business and what it takes to get one started.

Abstract: For capstone, I had taken an already existing business and made it my own. I had to research the current business plan of the diner and decide what direction I want to take the diner in, this meant I had to look at what is currently in the restaurant, the demographics, the atmosphere, and what expenses it would take to make the restaurant mine while still maintaining the current loyal customer base.

We were to create a name, logo, and menu for our bakery. Baby Rach’s Bakery specializes in miniature treats, and catering for young children. I learned a lot about what it takes to run a business, and what it would cost for me to start my own bakery.

The Rolling Pin

Abstract: For my capstone I created my business "The Rolling Pin". The Rolling Pin is a bakery solely focused on cannabis infused goods located in Denver, Colorado. The Rolling pin business plan includes everything from budgets, to employees, to menus. It is a grab and go establishment for anyone over the age of 21. Tourism in Colorado in recent years have seen major spikes, making this location perfect for a business of this type. I managed to learn much more about a lot of interesting aspects than I expected while researching for different parts of this project. I hope anyone who reads this capstone will find that same joy!

Financial and Marketing Research for Alumni Campground

Black Ash Seed Management: A Potential Partnership Project

Abstract: The Emerald Ash Borer beetle is currently decimating Black Ash populations, which is making the species increasingly difficult to find. With the Black Ash species becoming increasingly rare, some management plans have been created to protect the remaining populations of this species. The Akwesasne Mohawk Tribe has a management plan in place that is not only trying to protect the remaining Black Ash but is also harvesting their seeds and growing new trees. Partnering with the Akwesasne Mohawk Tribe to grow Black Ash Trees would be a massive step in the fight to keep this species alive. My research will analyze the challenges and possibilities associated with entering into a partnership with the Akwesasne Mohawk Tribe in a joint effort to secure the Black Ash’s future survival.

A Comparative Look at Low-Impact versus High-Impact Camping Techniques

Abstract: For as long as there has been people inhabiting the area that is now known as the Adirondack Park, there have been people establishing camping techniques there. These techniques have evolved over time, from the primitive style of the Haudenosaunee Natives of almost 1,000 years ago to the creation of the Adirondack Lean-to, and finally the Great Camps of the 19th century, some of which are still standing tall and in use to this day. The early American residents of the Adirondacks made the local economy thrive off of camping, guiding, hunting, and trapping. While many people of the time saw the Adirondack Park from a capitol viewpoint, it soon became promoted for its natural beauty and wonder, which helped the area be seen and used with a more thoughtful perspective in mind. The aesthetic influences of the Adirondack camping styles can be seen around the country today and is a cornerstone of the modern Adirondack tourist economy. One major factor of camping in the Adirondack Park is low-impact camping. This idea prevents damages to the environment from any impacts created whilst camping. The Environmental Impact & Response to the July 3rd, 2019 Jim Beam Fire

Abstract: This paper examines the environmental impact of the summer 2019 Jim Beam Fire. On the 3rd day of July 2019, a Jim Beam Distillery Rickhouse was, according to authorities’ best guess, struck by lightning. A security guard reported the fire to 911 and in short order, the rickhouse was fully involved. The rickhouse stored 45,000 barrels of distilled spirits that were being aged there. All of which were lost to fire or spill. The rickhouse was located on the Glenns Creek. Glenns Creek is a small creek that flows into the Kentucky River, and the spill affected these waterways in several ways (most notably was a substantial fish kill). In this paper, I use the Kentucky Environmental documents to outline the environmental impact, subsequent response, and mitigation efforts. I have been to the scene of the fire.

A Land Ethic for the Anthropocene: Analyzing and expanding Leopold's Land Ethic

Abstract: Aldo Leopold’s Land Ethic has been revered in the environmental community since its creation in 1949 in Leopold’s, A Land Ethic. Leopold defines a land ethic as follows; “a thing is right when it tends to preserve the integrity, stability, and beauty of biotic communities and it is wrong when it tends otherwise”. Although this has been largely the definition accepted for generations, there are many criticisms about his Land Ethic specifically around the eco-centric views he presents within his essay. This project was put forth to expand and reanalyze Leopold’s claims to get a better working definition of a Land Ethic. Through interviews and surveys I was able to put together a cohesive ideas of local community members to get a working land ethic for Anthropocene we currently find ourselves. Alumni Campground Lean-to Analysis

Abstract: The intention of the report and research is to construct a plan and build a quick, easy, and affordable lean-to design for the Paul Smiths College Alumni Campground. The standing structures are beginning to show their age and are in need of maintenance and repair. The basis of this project can help more than just the campground, but help any other part of the campus or community that would be in need of a new shelter. The design will be APA and DEC compliant for accessibility laws, making the design to be used in almost every location.
